Five of The Best PC Games of All Time

Some games get a lot of hype and then end up dying out almost instantly. But for other games, they get crowned as being some of the best of all time. There are also trends in gaming that come and go, and a game is recognized as being great if it manages to stay relevant for a long time.

So, what are some of the best of the best? In no order, these are some of the best PC games of all time:

Minecraft

Mojang’s Minecraft is one of those stories that inspire indie developers to take a risk and put their games out there. Originally created back in 2009 by the Swedish Markus “Notch” Persson, it would be unusual for you to have not heard of the game.

You spawn into an infinitely generated world and are set to survive, build and explore. The game doesn’t really have any specific goals or rules and is insanely addictive. Minecraft is also one of the most watched categories of YouTube videos too, and many famous YouTubers on the platform have gained fame thanks to the game.

If that doesn’t convince you enough, Minecraft is also the best-selling game of all time.

Half-Life

Released in 1998, Half-Life is one of the best games ever released by Valve - if not their best. Half-Life really changed gaming forever, by being one of the first video games to include an in depth storyline as well as being an immersive first-person shooter.

You play as Gordon Freeman, a scientist trying to escape a research facility deep underground after a machine failure causes a huge alien invasion. The shooting style of the game and various mechanics really made Half-Life stand out, and sitting down to play the game today - you’ll be amazed it was released so long ago.

Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is quite possibly the fan favourite of Bethesda’s gigantic series. The open-world role-playing game is adored for giving the player huge amounts of freedom. After creating a character and escaping a dragon’s attack, you are free to explore an absolutely enormous map and complete quests at your own pace. Believe us, the game almost feels unbeatable with how much content there is, and people are still playing this incredible game for years on.

Probably one of the biggest aspects that makes the game so darn addictive is the levelling system. There are simply so many tasks to complete, so many weapons to find, and so many areas to explore. You can even get married in the game!

Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar is a very well-respected developer in the gaming world, and pretty much every title they release is an instant hit, with GTA 5 being no exception. Released in 2013, the game is still one of the most played games ever and has broken many records.

In the story version of the game, you get to play as three characters: Franklin, Michael and Trevor. The story is incredibly cinematic and it is like watching a movie, but the gameplay and missions are always fresh and fun.

The game is still played widely because of the online mode. GTA Online gets regularly updated by Rockstar, and players are able to run their own businesses, own luxurious cars and customize their characters as they please.

Batman: Arkham City

The Batman Arkham series really showed us that superhero games can be more than just marketing. The 2nd instalment is arguably the best in the entire series. Instead of being confined to a somewhat boring indoor environment in the previous game, Batman is able to roam around Gotham City.

You even get to play Bruce Wayne himself, and it's amazing to see how far the Batman franchise has come over the years, with Robert Pattinson playing the caped crusader in the latest movie.

Throughout the game, you face some of Batman’s most loved characters like Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Robin, Two-Face, Poison Ivy and of course The Joker. The game was a massive success and has not only changed the PC gaming universe but altered the future for superhero games to come. In fact, other superhero games like some from the Spiderman franchise have tried to imitate some of Arkham’s mechanics.
